Congress Passes Bill to Release Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files related to the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. Trump's team gave in after months of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a case that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, speeding up the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

The public have waited long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a floor speech on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The bill next goes to Trump for his endorsement. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Although Trump has for months dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “political stunt”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the past few days, and announced he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Response

Democrats, along with survivors of Epstein and their supporters who were seated in a viewing area, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who said he worried the measure would make public personal information of people, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
