The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
