Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
