2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the full content from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to continue witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.
The President

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is in your hands."
The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can expect further news as production continues.
